AUTUMN TABLE RUNNER

Do you need a quick and easy project to decorate for fall? It could not get simpler than this Autumn Table Runner.
Table runners are great projects for trying out a new pattern or technique. The size and small number of needed blocks makes them perfect for beginner quilters too. And it is a great way to try out color combinations, and machine vs. hand quilting.

Autumn is my favorite season. I love the colors, the weather, and the activities that come with the season. The heat of summer is finally gone, but it is still a comfortable temperature. The colors are wonderful against the beautiful blue sky. And who can resist hayrides, kicking up leaves as we walk, and making smores over a fire. All while enjoying the crisp air, and the clear night sky.
Autumn Table Runner
This table runner is made of three left-over log cabin blocks and a dozen flying geese.

Finished size of this is 13″ x 40″. I did not have a size in mind when I planned this table runner. The size is what it turned out with the blocks I had to work with. If I did it over, I would put a narrow border around the outside to frame it.
I machine pieced and hand quilted this one in 2000. The batting is poly and a scrap. For backing I used a piece of red checked gingham that was in my stash.

I outlined quilted around the shapes, nothing exciting, but it looks pretty.

It comes out to decorate for fall and Thanksgiving.
This autumn table runner earned a first-place ribbon in the 2000 county fair where I live.
Give it a try yourself…..
Looking for a way to use up scraps or “orphan” blocks? Give this project a try. A few blocks, some quilting, and you have a great table runner for those family meals. Or a great conversation piece.
You can make this any size or color combo simply using “orphan” blocks you already have on hand. Or make a few blocks to experiment with colors, size, or pattern. Take this idea and run with it to make seasonal table runners for yourself and as gifts. Let your creativity shine.
Have fun and happy quilting.
