Indiana Quilter 40

Welcome Quilting Friends to Indiana Quilter 40 – I am so glad you stopped by today!!

Are you a bit of a “quilting rebel”? You love quilts and follow the directions and/or color suggestions that are currently popular.

But in your head, you have all kinds of wonderful quilting ideas that really don’t “fit in the box” for quilts that your other quilting buddies are making.

This is the place to spend time then, because I tend to be a bit of a “quilting rebel” too.

Are you?

Beginner to expert quilter.

Use simple patterns that can be adjusted for personal use and likes.

Want to have fun, be encouraged and inspired.

Think “outside the box” when it comes to patterns and finished quilts.

Maybe a bit of a quilting “rebel”.

Tend to start with traditional patterns as jumping off point for quilts.

Want quilts to be personal and give happiness to yourself and others.

Like quilt shows for ideas and networking with other quilters.

Use fabrics that you like instead of fabric that pattern may call for.

I want to inspire and encourage you in your quilt journey. This blog is a mix of quilt show, quilt journal, helpful tips, quilt resources, and current projects.

Me:

Passionate about quilting – all parts of the project.

I have been quilting 40+ years!

Willing to mix techniques in a single quilt.

Rarely do complicated patterns but use them for ideas.

Normally start with traditional pattern and add my own twist to it.

Love colors and patterns – I have been told I am “fearless” when it comes to mixing stuff up on my quilts.

Was re-purposing/re-using long before it was popular.

Love to hand quilt and utilize machine quilting too.

Tend to think “outside the box” for solutions to completing a quilt.

These are the two rules I follow for quilting (well ok, three):

Always buy the best supplies and fabric you can afford.

If using a sewing machine, get comfortable with it.

Take time to sew straight seams that are consistent in size all the way through the quilt

  10. Great quilt blog, now following! I am amazed at all the quilts and ideas on this blog. Not the typical quilt blog at all. I am going to start going through scraps and get busy on one of your simple block quilts. I love how the blue and yellow one looks, but mine will be in reds and yellows. Subscribed.

    1. Reds and yellows will make for a bright and cheerful quilt. Have a great time making it and please share a photo with me so I can see your quilt.

  11. Found this quilt website last week and have been reading every chance I get. Wow, there is so much here. Tons of ideas, great photos, and easy directions. I don’t work tomorrow and have decided to spend the day going thru my fabric stash and scrap bin (notice there is only one right now). Somehow I think that by the end of the year I will have several scrap bins as I work thru some of the projects here. Thanks lots.

    1. So happy that you found my quilt blog. There are lots of ideas that should keep you busy quilt making for some time to come. Have fun and happy quilting.

  13. Oh my goodness! An amazing quilt blog. Subscribed. I am having a hard time deciding which quilt to make next. And I love how you tell what size pieces you used but then say something to the affect that the pieces can be adjusted to suit what the reader wants. I made a lap size quilt by adjusting the triangles much smaller and now have my own version of “The Great Migration”. I am trying to choose between the wedding quilt and the American Melting Pot to make a wall hanging from. Far too many great ideas here. Keep up the fantastic work.

    1. Thanks so much for the encouraging words. Helping other quilters is exactly why I blog. I hope you will share photos of your quilts with me for the reader’s gallery. Happy quilting.

  14. I stopped reading quilt blogs awhile back because they all seemed to be the same. But I was looking for a specific design and ended up at this quilt blog. Wow a nice refreshing change. So many simple ideas to make pretty quilts. I subscribed. Have a great day.

      Happy quilting.

  16. Great, great blog! You are such an inspiration to my quilting hobby. I won’t ever be the passionate quilter you are, or as productive. BUT I love your ideas and that you make quilting simple. Thanks for sharing this part of your life with the rest of us.

  17. I like what are doing here with quilting. What a clever blog.
Keep up the awesome work. I’ve subscribed so I get all your quilt posts..

  18. Hello there! Would you mind if I share your blog with my crafting group?
There’s a couple quilters that I think would really enjoy your content.
Please let me know. Thank you.

  19. I’m pretty pleased to discover this page. I wanted to thank you this
wonderful quilt related read!! I have you saved this blog to my favs.

    1. Good morning,

Thank you for the encouraging note. Please visit often or subscribe. I try to do a post on Mondays.

      Happy Thanksgiving.

  20. I want to thank you so much for the very clean and wonderful user friendly design of this quilt blog. I find so many quilting blogs hard to follow because there is just so much clutter, but I have been reading yours for hours and wow!!

You are really passionate in this topic and it shows in how you present all these great quilts! Do you ever sleep? I can’t imagine making all these quilts!!

Keep sharing your wonderful world of quilts and quilting. It is so inspirational to this mere mortal.

    1. It is good news to hear that the blog is user friendly and clean looking. I have favorite quilt blogs to read too, and prefer the ones that are not so cluttered looking also.

I am very passionate about quilting. It is a wonderful hobby, and a source of calm in my crazy busy world.

At one point this year I had almost all my UFOs complete and was pretty proud of myself. Then I got inspired to start another quilt, which lead to another. I currently am working on several quilts in various stages. Plus I started a mystery quilt.

Enjoy the quilt journey you are on. You are not a “mere mortal” – quilt making is not a race. We are all unique creations and our quilts should reflect that.

  21. My sister and quilting buddy suggested I might like this website. She was so right. I can’t believe all the great tips here. And you make simple patterns come to life with the different color choices.

I have tons of fabric scraps and have put off using them because I just could not find anything that really interested me. I am reading your posts about the quilts you have made during the last several months just from scraps and I am so inspired.

    Thanks so much.

    1. Oh the scraps do get to be a bit much don’t they? Amazing how cutting and sewing a quilt top makes for more fabric to deal with for another project. It is great that you found some helpful and inspiring ideas here.

Have a great time reading all the various blog posts. Enjoy your quilting journey.

  22. I was extremely pleased to find this website. It is a wonderful read!! I have you saved as a favorite to check out new stuff on your quilt blog.

I am struggling to get one quilt a year done.

I know from other comments that you do your own photography too – what talent !!

Anyway, I personally rate this blog a 10 – keep up the great work.

    1. Hello Blair,

Thank you for the kind comments. I tend to teach or mentor one-on-one or very small groups. I feel like the students get shorted if there are very many people waiting on the “instructor” especially when I deal with so many beginner quilters who are not real confident in their quilting or sewing skills yet.

      Happy Stitching.
