CELEBRATE JULY 4TH QUILTS

I love red, white, and blue quilts. Not only are they patriotic, but they are also happy and bright. I thought I would share some red, white, and blue quilts I have made over the years. Use these ideas as a starting place to make one (or more) for yourself. Celebrate July 4th quilts!
Using cheater blocks –
Cheater blocks make for fun projects. They can be hand or machine quilted.
The below small quilt finished at 22″ square. I added the two outside borders and hand quilted it. It is self-bound. A work in progress for 1990-91.

Heart of America was another way to utilize cheater blocks. I added the dark blue with stars sashing between the blocks. The patriotic outer border was from a small piece of yardage left over from some other project. A fun work in progress from 1995-1999. It finished at 38″ x 39″.

Freedom was made from patriotic fabrics mixed with cheater blocks. I kept it very simple, so the math was easy. It finished at 68″ x 88″. Machine quilted. Started in 1996 and completed in 1999. Christmas gift for son “M”.

Rail Fences –
I pieced the below Rail Fence as a gift for my brother “M”. It is twin size and machine quilted in a loop pattern by BE of Joliet, MT in the early 1990’s.

Another Rail Fence quilt from the same time era. Same machine quilting. Sold.

Sampler –
The blocks were made in 1992 by a local quilt guild in a block exchange. I added the borders and hand quilted it in 1996. My sister really liked it, so I gifted it to her in 2000. The finished size is 70″ x 80″.

Log Cabin –
This wall hanging is 36″ square. It was completed in 1999 in time to enter the local fair – won first place in its’ category. Machine quilted.

American Summer was a work in progress 2014-2017. These strips are 2.5″ wide with the center blocks being 2.5″ too. The center squares and the first border are the same fabric. Machine quilted by RLM in a medium stipple design. Finished size is 92″ square. You can see more info here on my old blog.

Celebrate July 4th Quilts
Have a wonderful July 4th. Enjoy the time celebrating our country. Fly the flag proudly. Make great memories with family and friends.
Gather those red, white, and blue fabrics from your stash or scraps. Make a patriotic quilt to show off next summer.
