MY FANS ARE CHARMED

My Fans Are Charmed was a really fun quilt to make and not nearly as scary as the first fan quilt that I made in 1988. I guess ten more years of quilting makes a big difference in how I approach a pattern.
Each blade of the fans (there are 488 total) is from a different fabric. Maybe not a “true” charm quilt but I had fun sorting through the scrap bin and trading with other quilters to get the different fabrics.
Once the top was together, I tried out a few fancy stitches on it with hand embroidery. I got bored with that quick so decided to hand quilt it instead.
My Fans Are Charmed was hand quilted during 1997-98. Once it was completed, I went back and put some embellishment on it in the form of pretty buttons scattered over the top.

Then it disappeared into a stack of finished quilts until Christmas of 2000 when I gave it to my sister in Minnesota.
The top and back are cotton, and the batting is wool. The finished size is 80″ square.
The only notes I have on the pattern are here. I don’t know where the original pattern came from. Here are some ideas for your own fan quilts.

Wonderful quilt blog. Beautiful quilt and such a fun idea. Thinking I could do a charm quilt like this just from my scrap bin.
I am glad you like this quilt blog. Have fun making your charm fan quilt. Happy quilting.
