QUILTING BOOKS & WORKING ON THE MYSTERY QUILT

QUILTING BOOKS & WORKING ON THE MYSTERY QUILT

Another week has come and gone – time flies even when things are not so fun. Several of you have asked me how I am doing and what I am currently working on?? What I am working on is simply sitting and enjoying the quilting books in my personal library & working on the mystery quilt.

I am behind on the mystery quilt (as in weeks behind). I had all the fabrics gathered in one place. However, my concentration was terrible, and I am still correcting the mistake I made in week 2. Yep, those pesky little neutral and yellow corners got put on the wrong side of the “geese”. Instead of half of them one way, and then half the other – I made them all the same way.

Um… at least I only have to fix half of them, right?

As for how I am personally – each day seems to be a new difficulty, but God is always good. I am reminded every day of His love for me. So many small and big things: Money given, food cooked and brought over, phone calls, cards, prayers, and lots of hugs from people in my life. There is nothing easy about this.

Mystery quilt progress

I figured out that I can make the same size block as the directions call for by using my 3″ squares (making HST) and sewing 2 together. Another way to use what I have on hand and not buy more fabric.

To correct the corners, I simply take out the seam down the center and move the HST. I have been using the seam ripper in the evenings and taking out that seam.

Mystery quilt pieces from week 2 now in correct order.

At least the below half are correct. They are ironed and ready to be trimmed up and put into the next step.

The halves that are correct.

Quilting books

Having a personal library of quilt books is nice. I am constantly looking for quilt books that have patterns or techniques in them that will help me. This also means that I try to go through these books and pull out the ones I no longer need.

These get traded, given away, or sold (ebay or etsy). There is no space for piles of quilting books. And once I find ones that interest me more, the other ones need a new home.

These four (below) I traded for with another quilter recently and am enjoying them. Maybe they are something you would be interested in too so thought I would share them.

Take some time to look through books or magazines and get some new ideas.

And in the meantime, I am going to continue to enjoy my quilting books & working on the mystery quilt.
